Full moon calendar 2027.
The Moon reaches full twelve times in 2027, exactly one per calendar month. That tidy count is the reason 2027 has no Blue Moon: you need two full moons crammed into one month to get one, and no month in 2027 holds two. New moons run the other way. There are 13 of them, with two landing in August, so the dark-sky nights outnumber the bright ones. Here is every full moon with the exact instant it peaks in UTC, followed by all 13 new moons. If you are still planning around this year, the 2026 full moon calendar has the same tables.
Every full moon in 2027.
| Date (UTC) | Time (UTC) | Name |
|---|---|---|
| Fri, Jan 22 | 12:17 | Wolf Moon |
| Sat, Feb 20 | 23:24 | Snow Moon |
| Mon, Mar 22 | 10:44 | Worm Moon |
| Tue, Apr 20 | 22:27 | Pink Moon |
| Thu, May 20 | 10:59 | Flower Moon |
| Sat, Jun 19 | 00:44 | Strawberry Moon |
| Sun, Jul 18 | 15:45 | Buck Moon |
| Tue, Aug 17 | 07:29 | Sturgeon Moon |
| Wed, Sep 15 | 23:04 | Harvest Moon |
| Fri, Oct 15 | 13:47 | Hunter's Moon |
| Sun, Nov 14 | 03:26 | Beaver Moon |
| Mon, Dec 13 | 16:09 | Cold Moon |
Two of these sit right on the midnight boundary in UTC. The Strawberry Moon peaks June 19 at 00:44 and the Harvest Moon peaks September 15 at 23:04, so depending on your time zone the local calendar date can read a day off from the table. Lumara pins the moment to your own city, which is the honest way to answer "what night is it actually full" for those two.
The January and February supermoons.
The two closest full moons of the year come early. The Wolf Moon on January 22 passes about 357,644 km from Earth, the closest full supermoon of the whole 2026 to 2027 season, and the Snow Moon on February 20 is the second. Both count as supermoons under Fred Espenak's perigee-based definition, which ties the label to how near perigee the full moon falls. That criterion matters, because looser "within a set distance" cutoffs sweep in more moons and different sites publish different lists. Under Espenak's definition the entire second half of 2027 has no supermoon at all. The February 20 full moon does one more thing: it grazes the outer edge of Earth's shadow as a penumbral lunar eclipse, which is a faint shading across the disc at most, not a darkening you would notice without looking for it.
Where the names come from.
The month names (Wolf, Snow, Worm, and the rest) come from a mix of Native American, Colonial, and European folk traditions that tied each full moon to the season outside: wolves in January, thawing ground in March, ripening strawberries in June. They carry no astronomical weight, they are just a durable way to keep twelve moons straight. The Harvest Moon is the single name with a rule behind it. It is always the full moon nearest the September equinox, which in 2027 is the September 15 moon.
New moons in 2027.
For stargazing and meteor showers the new moon matters more than the full one, because these are the nights with no moonlight at all. 2027 has 13 new moons against 12 full moons, and the extra one falls in August: a new moon on August 2 and another on August 31. A second new moon inside one calendar month is informally called a Black Moon. Two of these dates carry eclipses. The February 6 new moon is an annular solar eclipse over South America and West Africa, and the August 2 new moon is the total solar eclipse that tracks over Egypt, covered in the August 2, 2027 eclipse guide.

How these dates are worked out.
The dates and times here follow standard ephemeris calculations, cross-checked against Fred Espenak's phase catalog and timeanddate.com, and listed in UTC. The Lumara app computes the live phase for your location each night from its own Meeus engine, so it keeps working on a plane or deep in a canyon with no signal. One thing to keep in mind: a tabulated instant on a page like this can differ from a live phase readout by a few hours, and when that happens the calendar follows the full ephemeris. Open the dashboard to see the current phase, illumination percentage, and the next full and new moon counted down for your city.
Common questions.
How many full moons are there in 2027?
Twelve, exactly one per calendar month, so 2027 has no Blue Moon. There are 13 new moons, with two in August.
When is the first full moon of 2027?
January 22 at 12:17 UTC, the Wolf Moon. It is also a supermoon under Fred Espenak's definition.
Are there supermoons in 2027?
January 22 and February 20 under Fred Espenak's perigee-based definition. Under that definition the second half of 2027 has none; looser distance cutoffs list more, so the criterion matters.
Are there lunar eclipses in 2027?
Three, and all are penumbral (February 20-21, July 18-19, August 16-17). A penumbral eclipse is a slight shading, easy to miss. 2027 has no total or partial lunar eclipse and no blood moon.
